Introducing Charlie & Eddie

These boys, originally from Maine, joined us in 2015 at the age of 4 years old.  They are half-brothers, born 1 week apart meaning they are "brothers from another mother".  Having misunderstood their role as "goat protectors" once at the farm, they decided to take on the role of "goat predators".  They are now assigned the main role as farm comics, entertaining visitors to Kimstead Farm.

  • Donkeys are cautious and require trust in their handler. They also need a clear and logical reason to follow commands, which contributes to their "stubborn" reputation.

  • Male donkeys are "jacks," females are "jennies," and castrated males are "geldings."

  • Donkeys typically live 35-40 years or longer.

  • Donkeys, especially miniatures, need companions like another donkey, a horse, or even a goat to avoid depression.
